On Thursday morning the PGA Tour’s communications department issued a weather warning that suggested thunderstorms could briefly roll through the area at TPC San Antonio in the last leg of the PGA Tour’s Texas<\/a> swing before the first major tournament of the year, the Masters, tees off on April 9.<\/p>\n

“A weak front will reach TPC San Antonio and eventually dissipate over the area today. Before it dissipates, a brief window for showers will exist, mainly between 7-10 am,” the tour announced. “A few strikes of lightning could also occur.”<\/p>\n

The weather warning turned prophetic when the first round of the Valero Texas Open was delayed due to a dangerous weather situation.<\/p>\n

“The start of the first round of the Valero Texas Open, originally scheduled for 7:30 a.m. CT, has been delayed due to a dangerous weather situation,” the PGA Tour’s communications department announced on Thursday morning.<\/p>\n

The PGA Tour did not announce a new start time for the tournament just yet, but the dangerous weather is expected to dissipate later this morning before “very low chances” of rain later in the afternoon.<\/p>\n

Kevin Streelman, Lanto Griffin and Max McGreevy were expected to tee off on No. 1 at 8:30 a.m. ET while Ryan Palmer, Dylan Wu and Mac Meissner were expected to tee off on No. 10 at 8:30 a.m. ET.<\/p>\n

The PGA Tour announced play will resume at 9:15 a.m. ET.<\/p>\n

“The first round of the Valero Texas Open is scheduled to begin at 8:15 a.m. local time, with all round one tee times delayed 45 minutes from their original starting time,” it said.<\/p>\n
