HOUSTON \u2013 Houston police have released new details on the officer-involved shooting that left a man armed with a butcher knife dead in Southwest Houston.<\/p>\n
According to a news release by the Houston Police Department, the incident occurred around 11:20 a.m. Wednesday at an apartment complex in the 6300 block of West Bellfort Avenue.<\/p>\n
OUR FIRST REPORT: Houston police officer shoots man armed with butcher knife near SW Houston apartment complex<\/a><\/p>\n Officers responded to a call regarding a man in crisis. <\/p>\n When they arrived, they spoke with a woman who said her husband was inside their upstairs apartment, and he was armed with a knife. <\/p>\n She told officers he was making suicidal threats as well as threats toward police.<\/p>\n Authorities said officers then went upstairs and attempted to make contact with the man. He allegedly stood near the apartment doorway holding a knife. <\/p>\n Officers reportedly made verbal commands to drop the weapon, police said the man refused and began advancing toward officers.<\/p>\n At that point, three officers discharged their weapons, striking the suspect.<\/p>\n HPD Commanders and PIO are en route to an officer involved shooting at 6300 W Bellfort Ave.<\/p>\n Prelim info is officers discharged at a male with a knife, striking him.
