Are. The. Pools.<\/p>\n<p>For a city that regularly hits triple digits before lunchtime, it&#8217;s wild that we have zero places for children to go swimming. Sure, some of us have a buddy with a backyard oasis. A few people will sneak into apartment complex pools. Some people will make it through the summer with a smile on their face&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>But, for everyone else? It&#8217;s cruddy kiddie pools, sprinklers, the water hose, or the beer cooler at the gas station&#8230;<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"767\" data-end=\"878\">We\u2019re told public pools are too expensive to run. Maintenance, staffing, insurance, it all adds up. Fair enough.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"880\" data-end=\"941\">But also\u2026 have you seen what is getting funded around here?<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"943\" data-end=\"1210\">Because somehow, there\u2019s always enough money floating around for buying up every affordable house in town and turning it into a rental priced like it comes with beachfront access. We may not have public pools, but we do have premium rent with a lovely view of dust. We\u2019re not demanding cabanas and DJs. We just want a place where kids can cannonball, parents can sit in the shade, and everyone can cool off. That&#8217;s it. It&#8217;s that simple.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1212\" data-end=\"1456\">Nearby cities have it figured out.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1212\" data-end=\"1456\">Like&#8230;uhh&#8230;all of them&#8230;<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1212\" data-end=\"1456\">Growing up in the 90s, there was no shortage of public pools in Lubbock. We had so many to choose from.
