A man who was already in custody for an unrelated offense has now been charged in connection with the fatal shooting of a Fifth Ward man from over two years ago, officials confirm.<\/p>\n
Zachary Harper, 47, has been charged with murder related to the shooting of Armin Mirazimi, 26.<\/p>\n
Officers with the Houston Police Department responded to a report of a person down around 8:50 a.m. on Sept. 10, 2023, at a vacant lot in the 1800 block of Saint Elmo Street. <\/p>\n
When they arrived, they found Mirazimi unresponsive inside a vehicle, suffering from a gunshot wound. <\/p>\n
He was pronounced dead at the scene by Houston Fire Department paramedics.<\/p>\n
Investigators said a gray Mercury Grand Marquis from the early 2000s, with a black vinyl roof over the backseat, was seen leaving the area around the time of the shooting.<\/p>\n
According to homicide investigators, Harper was later identified as a suspect in the case. <\/p>\n
He was formally charged while already in custody on April 1, 2026, for his alleged role in the killing. <\/p>\n
The investigation remains ongoing.<\/p>\n
