{"id":232793,"date":"2026-04-03T02:31:07","date_gmt":"2026-04-03T02:31:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/232793\/"},"modified":"2026-04-03T02:31:07","modified_gmt":"2026-04-03T02:31:07","slug":"whats-the-latest-on-texas-sized-friday-night-lights-reboot","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/232793\/","title":{"rendered":"What&#8217;s the latest on Texas-sized &#8216;Friday Night Lights&#8217; reboot?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Clear eyes, full hearts, can&#8217;t lose.<\/p>\n<p>This October will mark 20 years since Coach Eric Taylor and the Dillon Panthers first graced TV screens via <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mysanantonio.com\/entertainment\/article\/friday-night-lights-reboot-19919699.php\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Friday Night Lights<\/a>, a series that helped further <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mysanantonio.com\/entertainment\/article\/friday-night-lights-austin-texas-film-industry-21104856.php\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">put Central Texas&#8217; film industry on the map<\/a> and introduced future household stars. Ahead of that milestone anniversary, efforts behind the scenes are underway to reboot the classic Texas football series at Peacock.<\/p>\n<p>The original\u00a0Friday Night Lights\u00a0creative team, comprising showrunner Jason Katims, director Peter Berg and producer Brian Grazer are poised to join forces once again to executive produce the revitalized series. The premise of the upcoming show follows a high school football team after a devastating hurricane as they vie for a Texas High School State Championship, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.peacocktv.com\/blog\/friday-night-lights-reboot-on-peacock\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">per Peacock&#8217;s December 2024 announcement.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s a complete reinvention of the show,&#8221; Berg told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.esquire.com\/entertainment\/tv\/a64829628\/peter-berg-american-primeval-interview\/\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Esquire<\/a> in a May 2025 interview. &#8220;We want to do it with a whole new cast, but obviously there\u2019ll be football in it.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>It remains unclear if the future series will follow in its predecessor&#8217;s footsteps and film in Central Texas. The original series shot in the Austin and Pflugerville area, reimagining Pflugerville High School&#8217;s Kuempel Stadium, the Alamo Drafthouse headquarters and the Broken Spoke in the process.<\/p>\n<p>While specifics on the new series and its tentative premiere timeline remain under wraps,\u00a0Friday Night Lights\u00a0enthusiasts will have a chance to bask in some nostalgia before being reintroduced to a new round of characters. Katims will join fellow show creatives David Hudgins, Jeffrey Reiner, Liz Heldens and Kerry Ehrin as well as stars Kyle Chandler, Connie Britton and Adrianne Palicki at a <a href=\"https:\/\/atxfestival.com\/programming\/fnl\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">20th anniversary special<\/a> during this May&#8217;s ATX TV Festival.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The writers, producers, and cast that shaped the fictional town of Dillon [will] reunite for a look back at the season that started it all, the show&#8217;s indelible impact on Texas and TV, and why its characters, relationships, and motto (&#8216;clear eyes, full hearts, can&#8217;t lose&#8217;) continue to resonate so deeply,&#8221; the event teaser read in part.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Clear eyes, full hearts, can&#8217;t lose.
