As an element of the project, the City Council granted a $10.29 million contract for the construction of an effluent force main to a new water discharge point at a March 24 meeting.<\/p>\n<p>The full story<\/p>\n<p>The Sunfield Effluent Force Main Project features the construction of an approximately 18,000-linear-foot-long gravity sewer pipeline from the wastewater treatment plant to a discharge location in the Sunfield Municipal Utility District.<\/p>\n<p>The facility can currently treat up to 3.5 mgd, or million gallons of water per day, but only discharge up to 2 mgd. The new effluent force main will allow the city to fully utilize the plant\u2019s expanded treatment capabilities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is necessary for us to realize the full potential of our wastewater treatment plant expansion,\u201d said city of Buda Public Works Director Blair Murski. \u201cIf we were to reach our full potential, we would certainly need this project to go forward without issues.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The city received 10 proposals from potential contractors ranging from $9.9 million to $13.9 million, <a href=\"https:\/\/d3n9y02raazwpg.cloudfront.net\/buda-tx\/0ab1b251-e07c-11f0-bb28-005056a89546-a02f6f73-e553-4ab0-ae02-e59e7e8f6d42-1774299468.pdf\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">according to agenda documents<\/a>. The companies were scored based on relevant experience, references and cost proposals.<\/p>\n<p>The City Council approved a $10.29 million contract with the highest scoring company, MA Smith Contracting Co., for the Sunfield Effluent Force Main Project. The project will be funded by bonds issued in 2017 and 2021 certificates of obligation, or CO bonds.<\/p>\n<p>The next steps<\/p>\n<p>Construction on the effluent force main is expected to begin in May.
