{"id":233225,"date":"2026-04-03T09:17:13","date_gmt":"2026-04-03T09:17:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/233225\/"},"modified":"2026-04-03T09:17:13","modified_gmt":"2026-04-03T09:17:13","slug":"no-20-baseball-drops-series-opener-to-vanderbilt-texas-am-athletics","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/233225\/","title":{"rendered":"No. 20 Baseball Drops Series Opener to Vanderbilt &#8211; Texas A&#038;M Athletics"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>COLLEGE STATION \u2013 No. 20 Texas A&amp;M fell in a slugfest to Vanderbilt, 14-8, to drop the series opener Thursday night from Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nThe Aggies (23-6, 5-5), mashed five home runs, with <a href=\"https:\/\/12thman.com\/sports\/baseball\/roster\/caden-sorrell\/14991\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"14991\" target=\"_blank\">Caden Sorrell<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/12thman.com\/sports\/baseball\/roster\/bear-harrison\/14972\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"14972\" target=\"_blank\">Bear Harrison<\/a> each sending two balls out of the yard.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nThe Commodores (19-12, 6-4) were first on the board with a pair of solo homers in the opening frame.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/12thman.com\/sports\/baseball\/roster\/jorian-wilson\/15273\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"15273\" target=\"_blank\">Jorian Wilson<\/a> cut the lead in half in the second inning with a skyscraper home run to right-center field, traveling 378 feet with an exit velocity of 111 miles per hour.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nVanderbilt answered in the top of the third with three runs to go up, 5-1.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\nSorrell scratched a run back for the Maroon &amp; White in the bottom half of the third with a solo homer to right-center. Vanderbilt&#8217;s Collin Barczi matched the score in the fourth with his second solo shot of the game.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nThe Aggies spotted three runs in the fifth inning to get back within a run. Harrison led off the frame with an opposite-field jack and Sorrell brought two more home on his second long ball of the game to right-center field.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nThe visitors matched the three-spot in the top of the sixth as Barczi launched his third homer of the game to score two. A bases-loaded walk plated the Commodores&#8217; third run of the inning.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\nIn the bottom half, Harrison put the Maroon &amp; White back in reach with a three-run round-tripper to left field, making it a 9-8 ballgame. The junior&#8217;s second homer of the contest traveled 442 feet with a 107 mile-per-hour exit velocity.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nVanderbilt extended the lead with two runs in the eighth inning and capped the scoring at 14-6 with a three-spot in the ninth.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/12thman.com\/sports\/baseball\/roster\/shane-sdao\/14988\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"14988\" target=\"_blank\">Shane Sdao<\/a> (3-2) made the start and suffered the loss for the Aggies, allowing six runs, four earned, on eight hits. The righty punched out 10 batters in 5.0 innings pitched. Despite the loss, Texas A&amp;M still leads the series 16-14.&#13;<br \/>\n\tBlue Bell Park held 5,543 fans for the series opener.&#13;<br \/>\n\tSdao&#8217;s strikeout of Mancini in the fourth inning marked the 150th of his career.&#13;<br \/>\n\tSorrell extended his hitting streak to 12 games and has reached base safely in the last 23 contests.&#13;<br \/>\n\tThe junior logged his team-best 13th multi-RBI performance and 14th multi-hit game.
