The warmth across South Texas so far this spring has truly been unprecedented<\/a>. Since March 1, San Antonio\u2019s average high temperature has been 83.6 degrees \u2013 the warmest ever during that time frame. San Antonio daytime temps also have reached at least 85 degrees 28 times so far this year, the most ever through this point in the year.<\/p>\n

Finally, the region is about to experience a break from this unusual easy season heat. A strong cold front will surge through Texas on Saturday,<\/a> bringing rain chances and well below-average temperatures to San Antonio late Saturday and into Easter Sunday<\/a>. Here\u2019s an overview of what you can expect.<\/p>\n

Before the front arrives, Friday is expected to be yet another warm and humid day across South Texas. San Antonio will start the day in the lower 70s under overcast skies, with temps slowly rising into the upper 70s by noon.<\/p>\n

Some clearing is expected by the afternoon, but skies will likely stay at least partly cloudy throughout the day. Temperatures will rise into the mid- to upper 80s by 4 p.m.<\/a>, which would be about 10 degrees above average for early April. Winds will be quite breezy, sustained at 15 to 20 mph through the afternoon and evening, with gusts of up to 30 mph.<\/p>\n

By Friday night, a few scattered showers and storms will approach the region from the west. San Antonio rain chances will rise to around 30% after 8 p.m., with chances rising slightly higher overnight.<\/p>\n

The incoming cold front will be diving through North Texas early Saturday, and it will move quickly south throughout the day. The front is likely to reach the San Antonio metro area by around 2 to 4 p.m., resulting in increased risk of thunderstorms.<\/p>\n

San Antonio\u2019s overall rain chances will rise to around 70% Saturday afternoon and into the early evening. A few storms could be strong, but with limited atmospheric instability, widespread severe storms are not expected. Rain likely will not last long, however, as slightly drier air moves in behind the front.<\/p>\n

Temperatures, which will likely top out near 80 degrees in the early afternoon, should fall quickly after the front passes. San Antonio temps will likely be in the low to mid-60s by 6 p.m. before bottoming out in the mid-50s overnight. The front will also bring strong winds, with periodic gusts up to 30 mph likely.<\/p>\n

Moisture will continue to move south on Easter Sunday. However, some rainfall redevelopment is expected to occur near near a weak low pressure system west of San Antonio. This system will send showers and weak storms through the region Easter morning. San Antonio will see about a 50% chance of rain through 10 a.m., with chances decreasing slightly by the afternoon.<\/p>\n

Heavier and more widespread rainfall is expected across deep South Texas, from Laredo eastward to the Rio Grande Valley and Corpus Christi. There, localized flooding will be possible as moderate to heavy rainfall lingers through much of the day.<\/p>\n

Temperatures on Easter Sunday will also be well below average, with highs only expected to reach the mid- to upper 60s in San Antonio.
