The company launched services in the city last month, and this is its first airport expansion in Texas.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Jay Janner\/Austin American-Statesman<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.statesman.com\/business\/technology\/article\/waymo-driverless-robotaxis-austin-highways-21941299.php\" data-link=\"native\" class=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Waymo robotaxis<\/a> are officially coming to Texas airports.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn-channels-pixel.ex.co\/events\/0012000001fxZm9AAE?integrationType=DEFAULT&amp;template=design%2Farticle%2Fplatypus_two_column.tpl\" alt=\"\" class=\"x1px y1px vh abs\" aria-hidden=\"true\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The autonomous vehicle company, owned by Google parent Alphabet Inc., began <a href=\"https:\/\/www.expressnews.com\/business\/article\/waymo-robotaxis-san-antonio-airport-service-22162083.php\" data-link=\"native\" class=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">picking up and dropping off passengers at San Antonio International Airport <\/a>on Tuesday, its first airport service in Texas, about a month after launching robotaxis in the city.<\/p>\n<p class=\"uiTextSmall f aic jcc\">Article continues below this ad<\/p>\n<p>So when can the passengers at\u00a0Austin-Bergstrom International Airport expect to hop in a driverless vehicle?\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>How to get a Waymo at San Antonio airport<\/p>\n<p>The service is only offered to limited riders via the Waymo app, but the company&#8217;s vehicles will offer rides to the broader public soon, the company said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cProviding a safe and reliable ride to and from the airport is one of the most requested uses for Waymo riders, and we\u2019re proud to bring that capability to San Antonians,\u201d said Arica Gately, Waymo\u2019s head of airport partnerships and business development.<\/p>\n<p class=\"uiTextSmall f aic jcc\">Article continues below this ad<\/p>\n<p class=\"MM_onlineOnly\" title=\"CCI Online Only\">WAYMO NEWS: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.statesman.com\/business\/technology\/article\/waymo-remote-agent-school-bus-21953034.php\" data-link=\"native\" class=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Human agent\u00a0told Waymo robotaxi to illegally pass Austin school bus<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Dozens of Waymo&#8217;s robotaxis can be spotted around the city, operating in a roughly 60-square-mile area.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>And Waymo already has its sights set on launching at a second Texas\u00a0airport.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"uiTextSmall f aic jcc\">Article continues below this ad<\/p>\n<p>The company rolled out robotaxis in Dallas last month, and its Jaguar vehicles are already testing at Dallas Love Field. Waymo has also begun testing at Miami International Airport.<\/p>\n<p>Waymo already offers rides out of three other airports: Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, San Francisco International Airport and San Jose Mineta International Airport.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The company first started offering driverless rides in Phoenix in 2022, and expanded to the Bay Area airports over the past six months. Phoenix and San Francisco are the busiest airports that Waymo operates at currently, both\u00a0serving more than 4 million passengers monthly.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"Austin-Bergstrom International Airport is currently expanding its west gate as part of a broader $5 billion airport expansion pledge to support an anticipated jump in traffic.\u00a0\" loading=\"lazy\"   style=\"aspect-ratio:3 \/ 2\" class=\"x100 y100 opc bgpc ofcv bgscv block bg-gray200 mnh0px fill\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Austin-Bergstrom International Airport is currently expanding its west gate as part of a broader $5 billion airport expansion pledge to support an anticipated jump in traffic.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Austin American-Statesman file photo<\/p>\n<p>Are robotaxis coming to Austin airport?<\/p>\n<p>Austin was the first Texas city to see driverless robotaxis, with Waymo launching to the public in March 2025 after several months of testing. Tesla now offers robotaxi rides in the city, and Amazon\u2019s Zoox has begun testing its purpose-built vehicles across downtown and other busy neighborhoods.<\/p>\n<p class=\"uiTextSmall f aic jcc\">Article continues below this ad<\/p>\n<p>But there is currently no driverless service at Austin\u2019s airport.<\/p>\n<p>Waymo confirmed to the American-Statesman that it has begun autonomous testing at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport with \u201ca trained specialist at the wheel.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are confident in our ability to serve AUS,\u201d the company said.<\/p>\n<p>Waymo said it is working with the airport to obtain the permits needed to begin fully autonomous testing with employees.
