WASHINGTON (TNND) \u2014 The U.S. Supreme Court<\/a> confirmed Friday that Justice Samuel Alito had to get medical attention while at an event in Philadelphia last month.<\/p>\n

CNN first reported that Alito had to be taken to a hospital<\/a> after falling ill. The court put out a statement confirming that he had to see a doctor.<\/p>\n

\u201cOut of an abundance of caution, he agreed with his security detail\u2019s recommendation to see a physician before the three-hour drive home,\u201d the Supreme Court\u2019s statement reads. \u201c\u201cAfter that examination and the administration of fluids for dehydration, he returned home that night, as previously planned.\u201d<\/p>\n

The court said Alito was checked out by a physician and returned to his SCOTUS duties the following day.<\/p>\n

The incident happened on March 20, according to The Hill newspaper.<\/a> It was the same day the Federalist Society was holding a celebration that celebrated Alito being on the higher court for 20 years.<\/p>\n

Alito, 76, has not made any plans to retire from his position. If he were to, President Donald Trump could appoint a judge to replace him.<\/p>\n

Sources that are close to the judge told CNN<\/a> that he is considering retiring, but has not made a decision yet.<\/p>\n
