EL PASO, Texas (KTSM<\/a>) \u2014 The El Paso Fire Department has earned an ISO Class 1 rating from the Insurance Services Office, placing it among the top fire departments in the nation, the City of El Paso said.<\/p>\n

The designation is the highest classification ISO grants. Fewer than 1 percent of the more than 30,000 fire departments in the United States hold an ISO Class 1 rating, the City said.<\/p>\n

El Paso Fire also continues to maintain international accreditation through the Center for Public Safety Excellence\u2019s Commission on Fire Accreditation International, a distinction held by only 334 agencies worldwide. Only 12 fire departments in the country serving populations over 500,000 hold both recognitions, the City said.<\/p>\n

Together, these distinctions reflect exceptional performance in emergency response, fire suppression, communications, training, fire prevention, and water supply, the City said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis rating affirms what the El Paso community sees every day: a Fire Department that is fast, professional, highly trained, and ready to respond,\u201d Fire Chief Jonathan Killings said. \u201cIt reflects years of strategic investment, accountability, and the dedication of our personnel to protecting lives and property.\u201d<\/p>\n

This designation is more than a professional benchmark, the City said. It reflects a fire protection system built to protect lives, limit losses, and keep a growing city safe and resilient, the City added.<\/p>\n

For residents, businesses, and the broader community, an ISO Class 1 rating means, according to the City:<\/p>\n

Stronger protection for lives and property through faster response, effective fire suppression, and a department prepared to act when seconds matter.<\/p>\n

Potential insurance savings for many homeowners, businesses, and industrial properties because top-tier fire protection can help reduce risk.<\/p>\n

Less damage and faster recovery when fires occur, helping protect homes, jobs, public assets, and critical infrastructure.<\/p>\n

Greater confidence in the City\u2019s emergency readiness because this rating reflects strength in staffing, training, communications, equipment, water supply, and hydrant coverage.<\/p>\n
