The 3-year-old was taken to an urgent care facility and then rushed to the hospital.<\/p>\n

HOUSTON \u2014 A young boy was rushed to the hospital in critical condition Friday afternoon after suffering a gunshot wound in southeast Houston, according to police.<\/p>\n

HPD Eastside officers responded to an urgent care facility at Gulf Freeway and Monroe in Houston, where the child was brought for treatment. He was then transported to a hospital, where he was listed in critical condition. He is expected to survive.<\/p>\n

Investigators believe the shooting was a “negligent discharge,” meaning the gun was fired accidentally. No additional details about the circumstances of the shooting have been released.\u00a0<\/p>\n

It’s not clear where the boy was shot, who fired the gun, or the supervision at the time.<\/p>\n

An investigation is currently underway.<\/p>\n

It’s the second time a firearm has caused harm to a child in the Houston area on Friday. A 2-year-old was shot in the head in Channelview<\/a> and was in surgery.<\/p>\n
