1.\u00a0Majority of measles cases in Texas reported in federal detention facility<\/a><\/p>\n

According to\u00a0recent figures<\/a>\u00a0from the Texas Department of State Health Services, a federal detention facility in Hudspeth County reports most of the state\u2019s nearly 200 measles cases so far this year.<\/p>\n

In the first four months of 2026, Hudspeth County has reported 135 measles cases, according to a report from\u00a0The Texas Tribune<\/a>. Of these cases, all are among people in federal custody at the West Texas Detention Facility in Sierra Blanca, Texas, located 88 miles southeast of El Paso. The facility holds U.S. Marshals Service detainees including immigrants.<\/p>\n

2.\u00a0Camp Mystic submits application to reopen amid scrutiny, calls for it to remain closed<\/a><\/p>\n

Ryan DeWitt remembers his daughter Molly for her faithful, inclusive and joyful persona. Molly is one of the\u00a025\u00a0Camp Mystic campers swept away in last year\u2019s floods on July 4 that also killed two camp counselors, the owner of the camp and hundreds of other people in Kerr County.<\/p>\n

Camp Mystic wants to open its Cypress Lake location that didn\u2019t flood last year. The camp submitted a license application to the Texas Department of State Health Services.<\/p>\n

3.\u00a0Federal judge dismisses South Texas woman\u2019s wrongful arrest lawsuit stemming from 2022 abortion<\/a><\/p>\n

A federal judge has\u00a0dismissed<\/a>\u00a0a South Texas woman\u2019s wrongful arrest lawsuit over a self-induced abortion that happened shortly before Roe v. Wade was overturned. The lawsuit stems from the woman\u2019s arrest four years ago in the Rio Grande Valley.<\/p>\n

In 2022, Lizelle Gonzalez was arrested and charged with murder after taking misoprostol, medication used to induce an abortion. She was treated at an emergency room and delivered a stillborn baby, later spending two nights in jail.<\/p>\n
