{"id":234355,"date":"2026-04-04T01:55:06","date_gmt":"2026-04-04T01:55:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/234355\/"},"modified":"2026-04-04T01:55:06","modified_gmt":"2026-04-04T01:55:06","slug":"lubbock-seed-library-now-open-for-residents-hoping-to-bring-positive-environmental-change-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/234355\/","title":{"rendered":"Lubbock seed library now open for residents, hoping to bring positive environmental change"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"text | article-text\">LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) &#8211; Melissa Starck-Dotson may be a graphic designer by trade, but she\u2019s a green thumb at heart.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">When she\u2019s working on her garden, Starck-Dotson wants to be immersed in her surroundings.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cI want things that encourage butterflies, local birds and other type of wildlife to come to my yard,\u201d Starck-Doston said. \u201cI think it creates a Zen area.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Starck-Doston runs the Wild Natives Plant Nursery. Two months ago, she reached out to Amanda Green, the woman who started creating seed libraries in west Texas. A little while later, Starck-Dotson\u2019s box was built and ready to go, starting a powerful area collaboration.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cIt\u2019s awesome because I\u2019ve gotten to meet someone that\u2019s like-minded and shares a true grass roots effort,\u201d Starck-Doston said. \u201cShe really sees the hope in sharing seeds and hoping even just one flower can make a difference.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Inside the seed library, you\u2019ll find plenty of plants that aren\u2019t common to the Lubbock, but they\u2019re well-adapted to this area.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cI think a lot of people underestimate the color pallet that west Texas can provide,\u201d Starck-Doston said. \u201cWe have reds, we have purples, we have blues, we have yellows, a lot of yellows. West Texas has a lot of yellows.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">These packs are labeled for your convenience. Each one gives you the common plant name, the scientific name and how to sow the seeds.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cIt just goes to show you that there\u2019s people that are hungry for something new and they\u2019re looking for something new to learn and I think this is such a good launch point for that,\u201d Starck-Doston said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Starck-Doston says her favorite part about having keeping up with this box so far is seeing people get excited about something she\u2019s so passionate about.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cI know a lot of people say planting seeds is like planting hope for the future,\u201d Starck-Doston said, \u201cand I know that\u2019s such a common thing to say, but I think it holds a lot of weight.
