EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14\/CBS4) \u2014 A 33-year-old El Paso man is facing serious felony charges following a violent assault that left a victim with severe burns, head trauma, and life-threatening injuries, according to a recently filed complaint affidavit.<\/p>\n
David Garcia has been charged with aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury in connection with an incident that occurred on March 28 in central El Paso.<\/p>\n
According to the affidavit filed by El Paso police, the incident began in the early morning hours when firefighters responded to a reported house fire on North Ochoa Street. After extinguishing the flames and conducting a search of the residence, no individuals were found inside.<\/p>\n
However, during a secondary sweep of the area, first responders discovered a severely injured man lying approximately 200 feet from the home. The victim was found face down with a bottle of lighter fluid underneath him and had sustained extensive injuries.<\/p>\n
Police said both the suspect and the victim were homeless.<\/p>\n
Authorities reported the victim suffered burns covering approximately 40% of his body, along with a fractured skull and multiple lacerations. He was transported to a burn center in Lubbock. He died days later from his injuries.<\/p>\n
Investigators obtained surveillance video that allegedly shows Garcia and at least two other individuals confronting and assaulting the victim. The footage reportedly captures Garcia carrying a white bottle, believed to contain a flammable liquid, which he poured onto the victim.<\/p>\n
