HOUSTON \u2013 Voters in Houston City Council District C head to the polls Saturday, April 4, to decide who will fill the vacant seat previously held by Council Member Abbie Kamin, who stepped down to run for Harris County Attorney this year.<\/p>\n
Seven candidates are on the ballot. Whoever is elected will serve through the end of Kamin\u2019s term on Jan. 1, 2028.<\/p>\n
District C includes portions of the Heights, Washington Avenue, Montrose, Rice Village, and Meyerland.<\/p>\n
Harris County Clerk Teneshia Hudspeth said turnout during early voting was low.<\/p>\n
\u201cOnly 3.8% of District C\u2019s 168,539 registered voters cast their ballots during the early voting period,\u201d Hudspeth said. \u201cWe strongly encourage every eligible voter to participate on Election Day, so their voices are fully represented.\u201d<\/p>\n
Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Voters may cast a ballot at any of the 20 vote centers<\/a> open on Election Day. A list of locations and estimated wait times is available at HarrisVotes.com<\/a>, the clerk\u2019s office said.<\/p>\n What to bring: acceptable photo ID<\/p>\n Officials said voters can use one of the following forms of photo identification:<\/p>\n Texas driver\u2019s license (DPS)<\/p>\n Texas Election Identification Certificate (DPS)<\/p>\n Texas personal identification card (DPS)<\/p>\n Texas handgun license (DPS)<\/p>\n U.S. military ID with photo<\/p>\n U.S. citizenship certificate with photo<\/p>\n U.S. passport (book or card)<\/p>\n Voting by mail: who is eligible<\/p>\n The clerk\u2019s office said eligible voters for mail ballots include:<\/p>\n People\u00a065 or older<\/p>\n Voters who are\u00a0sick or have a disability<\/p>\n Voters who will be\u00a0outside the county\u00a0during the voting period<\/p>\n Voters\u00a0expecting to give birth\u00a0within three weeks before or after Election Day<\/p>\n Voters\u00a0confined in jail\u00a0but otherwise eligible to vote<\/p>\n
