Georgia softball faced No. 15 Texas A&M on Thursday and Friday in College Station, Texas, dropping the series after losing Games 1 and 3. The Bulldogs are now 28-10, and 7-5 in SEC play.<\/p>\n
Georgia picked up Game 2 on Friday night against the Aggies in a 10-6 win led by senior Jaydyn Goodwin\u2019s four-hit performance. Seniors Tyler Ellison and Natalie Ray, along with sophomore Bailey Lindemuth, each had two hits. Lindemuth, freshman Gabi Novickas and graduate student Keirstin Roose homered for Georgia.<\/p>\n
On the mound, freshman Ada Little earned the win in Game 2 for the Bulldogs, her fourth this season. Little pitched the fourth inning, allowing only one hit and no runs. Senior Destin Howard, junior Randi Roelling and sophomores Maddie Johnson and Addisen Fisher all contributed to the win as well, earning five collective strikeouts. Texas A&M earned seven hits and left six on base in the Georgia win.<\/p>\n
Thursday night, Georgia fell short by one run, losing 3-2 in the series opener. Senior Marisa Miller homered for the Bulldogs, tying the game 2-2 in the top of the sixth. Still, the Aggies pulled ahead later that inning and put up seven combined hits compared to Georgia\u2019s four.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Freshman Presley Harrison opened Game 1 for Georgia, going 2.1 innings and earning six hits and two runs. Little pitched 2.1 innings, Howard pitched 0.1 and Fisher earned the loss after entering in the bottom of the sixth, allowing the winning run. Fisher earned the only strikeout of the game for the Georgia bullpen.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Georgia fell again in a close matchup in Game 3, losing 2-1. Georgia earned its only run in the second inning off a home run by junior Emily Digby, and the Aggies’ nine hits overpowered Georgia\u2019s seven. Fisher earned the loss, going 4.2 innings, allowing eight hits and earning three strikeouts. She moves to 8-3 this season after two losses this series.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was a long, hard-fought day. I thought in that first game we strung together some good at-bats,\u201d head coach Tony Baldwin said. \u201cShorty [Jaydyn Goodwin] had a really good day, and I thought Gabi [Novickas] was really good all day having competitive at-bats.”\u00a0<\/p>\n
Game 3, which was initially scheduled for Saturday morning, was pushed up due to predicted weather in the area.\u00a0<\/p>\n
For the Aggie defense, Sophomore Sydney Lessentine had a dominant mound performance, going six innings in Game 1 and 5.2 innings in Game 3. Lessentine allowed 11 hits and earned only three runs between the two games, striking out nine. She earned two wins in the series and advances to 11-3 this season.<\/p>\n
\u201cI feel like we’re a better team at the end of the weekend than we were when we started, and these kinds of matchups that you just keep being in dogfights with,\u201d Baldwin said. \u201cThey help you when it comes down to the end as long as you stay together and you keep growing and you keep learning.\u201d<\/p>\n
