The Texas Relays welcomes the top athletes from across the world every year, but Friday’s high school events showed that some of the best up-and-coming stars are from right here in the Lone Star State<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

During the preliminary rounds of the boys’ 110-meter hurdles, Klein Collins High School<\/a> senior Andrew Jones blew away the competition with a 12.97-second 110-meter hurdles. While helped by a tailwind of +2.8\u00a0m\/s, just above the 2.0 m\/s legal limit, Jones became the first high school athlete ever in Texas Relays history to run a sub-13-second 110-meter hurdles time, securing the all-conditions record.\u00a0<\/p>\n

For context of just how fast this is: Grant Holloway, who represented Team USA in the Paris 2024 Olympics, won gold in the men’s 110-meter hurdles with a time of 12.99 seconds.\u00a0<\/p>\n

This isn’t the first time that Jones has broken records. His 35.07-second time in the 300-meter hurdles from earlier this spring surpassed Robert Griffin III’s longstanding record time of 35.33 seconds.<\/p>\n

He then broke it again at the Bluebonnet Invite, running a blistering 34.97 seconds. According to MileSplit<\/a>, he’s the second high school athlete in history to ever break 35 seconds in\u00a0the event.\u00a0<\/p>\n
