\t\t\t\tRichardson City Council<\/a> is set to soon decide on a new Fire Master Plan, which would include the construction of a new fire station.<\/p>\n

At an Oct. 20 meeting<\/a>, council heard an update on the proposed eight-year Fire Master Plan, which also calls for renovations to an existing station and additions to staffing and equipment.<\/p>\n

Fire Chief Curtis Poovey presented<\/a> revisions to the original plan<\/a> to address concerns about its extended timeline, previously set to conclude by 2036.<\/p>\n

Under the revised timeline, the new fire station will be included in the city\u2019s potential 2026 bond election<\/a> and is set to open by 2033, rather than 2035.<\/p>\n

The revised Master Plan is estimated to cost a total of $55.82 million and spread out from late 2025-2033, according to Poovey\u2019s presentation.<\/p>\n

The initiatives proposed in the plan include:<\/p>\n

Acquiring a new truck for Fire Station No. 3Acquiring an additional ambulance to help cover the downtown areaBuilding the city\u2019s seventh fire station and hiring personnel for itBuilding an apparatus storage and repair centerRemodeling Fire Station No. 6Hiring new EMS captains, incident safety officers and battalion chiefsThe items set to be included in the city\u2019s potential 2026 bond election are the construction of the new fire station and apparatus storage center, as well as the renovations to Fire Station No. 6. According to Poovey, the estimated costs for these projects are $31 million, $5.5 million and $1.9 million, respectively.<\/p>\n

Additionally, council member Jennifer Justice emphasized the need to discuss additional costs associated with the plan\u2019s initiatives.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s quite a substantial amount of operation cost that comes with this plan, which is understandable,\u201d Justice said. \u201cWe need the personnel, but there are broader implications I think that we should be discussing.\u201d<\/p>\n

What\u2019s next<\/p>\n

Council is set to discuss the adoption of the Fire Master Plan at the meeting on Nov. 10.<\/p>\n
