{"id":23557,"date":"2025-10-27T22:05:22","date_gmt":"2025-10-27T22:05:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/23557\/"},"modified":"2025-10-27T22:05:22","modified_gmt":"2025-10-27T22:05:22","slug":"richardson-officials-receive-update-on-upcoming-fire-department-initiatives","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/23557\/","title":{"rendered":"Richardson officials receive update on upcoming fire department initiatives"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cor.net\/government\/city-council\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Richardson City Council<\/a> is set to soon decide on a new Fire Master Plan, which would include the construction of a new fire station.<\/p>\n<p>At an <a href=\"https:\/\/richardsontx.new.swagit.com\/videos\/358575\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Oct. 20 meeting<\/a>, council heard an update on the proposed eight-year Fire Master Plan, which also calls for renovations to an existing station and additions to staffing and equipment.<\/p>\n<p>Fire Chief Curtis Poovey <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cor.net\/home\/showpublisheddocument\/44630\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">presented<\/a> revisions to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cor.net\/home\/showpublisheddocument\/44021\/638893214296870000\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">original plan<\/a> to address concerns about its extended timeline, previously set to conclude by 2036.<\/p>\n<p>Under the revised timeline, the new fire station will be included in the city\u2019s potential <a href=\"https:\/\/communityimpact.com\/dallas-fort-worth\/richardson\/government\/2025\/10\/07\/richardson-council-eyes-infrastructure-drainage-as-priorities-for-potential-2026-bond\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">2026 bond election<\/a> and is set to open by 2033, rather than 2035.<\/p>\n<p>Diving deeper<\/p>\n<p>The revised Master Plan is estimated to cost a total of $55.82 million and spread out from late 2025-2033, according to Poovey\u2019s presentation.<\/p>\n<p>The initiatives proposed in the plan include:<\/p>\n<p>Acquiring a new truck for Fire Station No. 3Acquiring an additional ambulance to help cover the downtown areaBuilding the city\u2019s seventh fire station and hiring personnel for itBuilding an apparatus storage and repair centerRemodeling Fire Station No. 6Hiring new EMS captains, incident safety officers and battalion chiefsThe items set to be included in the city\u2019s potential 2026 bond election are the construction of the new fire station and apparatus storage center, as well as the renovations to Fire Station No. 6.
