\u201cIt just shows how connected my dad was with people and just the love that people have shared \u2014 a lot of wonderful messages,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

According to San Antonio police, Mendez\u2019s body was discovered the morning of March 28 near Rigsby Road, close to Roland Road and Interstate 10. Authorities said a passing family noticed smoke and reported what appeared to be a brush fire.<\/p>\n
Firefighters investigating the scene went into a drainage channel and found Mendez\u2019s body, which was hidden in the deep brush. Police said his hands had been tied with rope, his body wrapped in plastic and set on fire.<\/p>\n
Investigators have not released additional details about the case, and no arrests have been announced. \u00a0<\/p>\n
Victor Mendez said the family is struggling to understand why his father was targeted.<\/p>\n
\u201cI can\u2019t imagine this person knows the godly person that my dad was,\u201d he said. \u201cI really believe that person will be found out. We just want justice for my dad.\u201d<\/p>\n
Despite their grief, the family said they are leaning on their faith.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe don\u2019t know why God allowed this, but we see that he\u2019s being glorified, and we\u2019re just thankful for the time we spent with him,\u201d Victor said.<\/p>\n
