Houston announced Sunday it will place right-hander Hunter Brown<\/a> on the 15-day Injured List (IL) due to a right-shoulder sprain. Brown will be placed on the IL retroactive to April 2, allowing him to return to the Astros as early as its home series against the St. Louis Cardinals, beginning April 17. The Astros recalled right-handed reliever Christian Roa from Triple-A Sugar Land on Sunday in a corresponding move.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Brown, 27, made his first Opening Day start with the Astros this season after an All-Star season in 2025 (in which he posted a 2.43 ERA and struck out 206 batters across 185 1\/3 innings). Brown struggled in his 2026 season debut in a 3-0 loss to the Los Angeles Angels, but he quickly rebounded last Tuesday with a six-inning, eight-strikeout effort in a 9-2 win against the Boston Red Sox.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Sunday marks the first time Brown will be placed on the Injured List in his five-year MLB career. He was slated to pitch this week during the Astros’ series at the Colorado Rockies beginning Monday, but those plans are no longer in place. The Astros have yet to announce their rotation for the series at Coors Field, though they could call up another pitcher from Triple-A to fill Brown’s spot. Right-hander Spencer Arrighetti<\/a> is perhaps the most likely option after a strong start Friday for Triple-A Sugar Land, though he likely wouldn’t take the mound until Wednesday.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Houston has one more game in West Sacramento against the Athletics before flying to Colorado.
