J.J. Spaun is headed to Augusta National with a win.<\/p>\n
Spaun survived a rainy week in San Antonio to claim the Valero Texas Open on Sunday afternoon, marking the final PGA Tour stop before the Masters kicks off in just a few days. Spaun posted a 5-under 67 in his final round to reach 17-under on the week, which ended up being just enough to secure the one-shot win.<\/p>\n

Robert MacIntyre entered Sunday with a two-shot lead, though play was halted early on Saturday due to storms in the area. Nobody played more than 14 holes in the third round on Saturday, and some players had to go 30 holes on Sunday in order to actually finish the tournament.<\/p>\n
That led to a pretty chaotic finish on Sunday, where weather still wasn\u2019t great in San Antonio. MacIntyre held onto a share of the lead after he wrapped up the final 12 holes of his third round, but Matt Wallace eventually overtook him after he made three straight birdies. Wallace went 12-under on his final 36 holes, but entered the clubhouse just too early to secure the win.<\/p>\n
Spaun eventually overtook Wallace and got to 17-under, thanks to a late eagle at the par-4 17th, to grab the clubhouse lead himself. Spaun went up-and-down at the last to wrap up his 5-under.<\/p>\n
MacIntyre, meanwhile, had fallen back and left the door open for Spaun and others ahead of him. But he also came up with an eagle at the 17th, thanks to a deep putt of his own, to suddenly get back within a stroke entering the final hole.<\/p>\n

But MacIntyre\u2019s approach on the final green went way right and ended up in some thick mud near a concession area. While he ended up landing on the green after that, he left himself way too long of a birdie putt. MacIntyre ended up saving par at the 18th, which gave Spaun the one-shot win.<\/p>\n
The win for Spaun marked the third of his PGA Tour career, and his first since his U.S. Open win last season. He entered this week at No. 13 in the Official World Golf Rankings, but had only made the cut in three of his seven starts this season.<\/p>\n
MacIntyre finished in a tie for second with Wallace and Michael Kim at 16-under on the week. Ludvig \u00c5berg birdied the last to join Andrew Putnam in fifth, two shots back from Spaun.<\/p>\n
