BEXAR COUNTY \u2014 A man is in custody after allegedly firing his weapon while deputies were responding to a domestic disturbance at a home in North Bexar County.<\/p>\n
Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar said the incident began as a domestic violence call at a home with a documented history of previous calls for service. Deputies responded to the 26900 block of Rustic Brook on Sunday.<\/p>\n
Salazar said the suspect and homeowner, a 56-year-old man, assaulted his 30-year-old son, who had some facial injuries but was not seriously hurt.<\/p>\n
When deputies entered the home, the man was not resistant at first but at some point Salazar said he drew a firearm from his waistband while he was being handcuffed. <\/p>\n
Deputies attempted to wrestle the gun from him, during which the suspect fired one round into the ground. No one was hit.<\/p>\n
Salazar emphasized the restraint deputies showed, which he said saved the man’s life. “He’s just lucky to be alive,” he said. <\/p>\n
The suspect, who was not identified, has a violent criminal history, including assault type charges, Salazar said. Deputies have responded to the home at least 14 times in the last year and a half to two years. <\/p>\n
The suspect will be facing one charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and may face additional charges of domestic violence, Salazar said. <\/p>\n
