BULVERDE, Texas \u2014 Experts say releasing basic information about a crime is unlikely to jeopardize a criminal investigation. That’s why News 4 has been pressing for answers in the deadly shooting at Hill Country College Preparatory High.<\/p>\n

Law enforcement and first responders fanned out at Hill Country College Preparatory High last Monday after investigators say a 15-year old student shot a teacher before turning the gun on himself.<\/p>\n

A week later, school leaders and law enforcement officials still have not released the names of the gunman and the victim.<\/p>\n

Investigators say the weapon the 15-year old student used was a 3-57 revolver that belonged to his grandfather<\/a> but no information about how he got access to the gun has been released.<\/p>\n

The teacher was shot on the second floor, in front of other students, but investigators have not yet said how many students were there.<\/p>\n

Kelly Shannon, with the Freedom of Information Foundation of Texas, says transparency and the timely release of information are critical.<\/p>\n

Advocates like Shannon say transparency is not about releasing every detail, but the public has a right to know basic information.<\/p>\n

What is the school’s security protocols?How is the school security funding?What’s the name of the teacher shot?What’s the name of the student involved?What’s the possible motive for shooting? <\/p>\n
