City leaders are asking residents to weigh in on spending priorities as San Antonio prepares its 2027 budget.<\/p>\n

SAN ANTONIO \u2014 San Antonio leaders are asking residents to weigh in on how city dollars should be spent as officials begin planning the 2027 budget.<\/p>\n

The city has launched a public survey<\/a> aimed at gathering input on priorities, as leaders face declining revenue and changes in state and federal funding.<\/p>\n

One key area of discussion is public safety.<\/p>\n

In the 2026 budget, the San Antonio Police Department received about $632 million out of the city\u2019s $4 billion budget.<\/p>\n

A 2023 study recommended hiring 360 officers over a five-year period to keep up with the city\u2019s growing population. However, last year, city council funded just 40 new officer positions.<\/p>\n

Councilmembers Marina Alderete Gavito, Misty Spears and Marc Whyte have pushed to revisit that plan, but the proposal has been tabled for further discussion.<\/p>\n

Beyond public safety, the budget will also determine funding for city services, programs and development projects.<\/p>\n

Officials say the survey takes less than five minutes<\/a> to complete and is available online, as well as at libraries, senior centers, community centers and council offices across the city.<\/p>\n
