In March 2026, the City of Arlington completed approximately 3.61 lane miles of asphalt improvements.<\/p>\n

The majority of this work\u2013 about 3.31 lane miles of asphalt reclamation improvements-were completed on the following streets:<\/p>\n


\nButterfield Road (Dangerfield Court to Cul-de-sac)
\nCameron Drive (Butterfield Road to Cul-de-sac)
\nCrest Drive (Stage Line Drive to Sagebrush Trail)
\nCrestmont Court (Stage Line Drive to Sagebrush Trail)
\nDarius Drive (Crestmont Court to Hawkins Cemetery Road)
\nSagebrush Trail (5902 Sagebrush Trail to Hawkins Cemetery Road)
\nStage Line Drive (Crest Drive to Hawkins Cemetery Road)
\nTrail Crest Drive (Crest Drive to Hawkins Cemetery Road) <\/p>\n

Asphalt reclamation consists of pulverizing the entire existing asphalt pavement structure to a depth of 10 to 12 inches. The road base material under the pavement is mixed with lime\/cement stabilization to ensure the new road base has the proper density to support the new asphalt surface. Asphalt is then repaved at a depth of 6 inches. This method is used for streets that have a poor OCI rating or are considered \u201cred\u201d streets.\u00a0Miscellaneous concrete repairs to curb & gutter, drive approaches, and valley gutters were completed, also.<\/p>\n

An additional 0.23 lane miles of asphalt mill & overlay was also completed improving:<\/p>\n


\nSagebrush Court (Sagebrush Trail to Cul-de-sac) <\/p>\n

The asphalt roadway surface was milled down two inches and then repaved with a new asphalt surface. This method is for streets in mid-average OCI rating, and the road base is in good condition. These are considered \u201cyellow\u201d streets. Concrete repairs to curb & gutter, drive approaches, and valley gutters were completed, also.<\/p>\n

How is Street Maintenance Funded?<\/p>\n

Street improvements in March were done through the City\u2019s Street Maintenance Sales Tax Program<\/a>.<\/p>\n

A quarter-cent street maintenance sales tax, first approved by Arlington voters in 2002, is the primary funding source for day-to-day roadway maintenance operations for the City\u2019s 3,010 lane mile street network. This dedicated sales tax generates about $25 million to $30 million annually, which typically accounts for 90% of Arlington\u2019s annual street maintenance budget. Only about 10% of the street maintenance budget is supported by the General Fund.<\/p>\n

The Arlington City Council voted Feb. 10 to include the proposed renewal of the quarter-cent Street Maintenance Sales Tax on the ballot in the May 2, 2026, General Election. This sales tax, last approved by Arlington voters in 2018, is set to expire on Jan. 1, 2027. If the renewal is approved by voters, the sales tax would be in place through Dec. 31, 2034, to provide a dedicated funding source for street renewal and maintenance projects.\u00a0<\/p>\n
