{"id":23749,"date":"2025-10-28T00:25:12","date_gmt":"2025-10-28T00:25:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/23749\/"},"modified":"2025-10-28T00:25:12","modified_gmt":"2025-10-28T00:25:12","slug":"project-marvel-land-bridge-shelved-over-federal-funding","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/23749\/","title":{"rendered":"Project Marvel land bridge shelved over federal funding"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>SAN ANTONIO &#8211; During a <a href=\"https:\/\/sanantonioreport.org\/city-manager-business-owners-envision-downtown-spurs-arena-district\/\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"https:\/\/sanantonioreport.org\/city-manager-business-owners-envision-downtown-spurs-arena-district\/\" class=\"themeColorForLinks\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">City Fest panel discussion<\/a> on Thursday, San Antonio City Manager Eric Walsh confirmed that the land bridge over I-37 presented as part of Project Marvel is off the table for now.<\/p>\n<p>Walsh blamed changing federal spending priorities, but remained hopeful that funding required could become possible under a different administration.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt&#8217;s going to have to be a long term conversation,\u201d said Walsh.\u201dIt&#8217;ll be important to do pedestrian bridges over the highway and keep people off at the street level back in Hemisphere Park, but, you know, never say never. I think it&#8217;s something that would be really unique and would have additional space, and it would connect the Dome.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The proposed land bridge would have been built over I-37, connecting the Alamodome to the new Spurs Arena. The larger hope was connecting the East Side with downtown.<\/p>\n<p>Early Voting<\/p>\n<p>Proposition A proposes raising the hotel occupancy tax by up to 2% to fund a nearly $200 million redevelopment of the Frost Bank Center and rodeo grounds on the east side. Proposition B would allocate hotel tax revenue toward a proposed sports arena project, allowing the county to use more than $300 million of venue tax money for a new Spurs arena downtown.<\/p>\n<p>Voters will ultimately decide the outcome.
