A 74-year-old woman was fatally struck by a car<\/a> driven by an 86-year-old man who was making a turn on a Downtown El Paso street, police said.<\/p>\n Maria Patrocinio Longoria, of El Paso, was on a crosswalk when she was struck at about 8:15 a.m. on Easter Sunday, April 5, at the intersection of Texas Avenue and Kansas Street, stated a news release issued by El Paso police spokeswoman Detective Judy Oviedo on Monday.<\/p>\n More: El Paso fatal crash tracker 2026<\/a><\/p>\n The Special Traffic Investigations Unit determined that Roberto Rodriguez, also of El Paso, was driving a 2011 Volvo S40 on Texas Avenue when he turned onto Kansas and hit Longoria, police reported. Longoria died at the scene.<\/p>\n Investigators noted that failure to yield to a pedestrian was a factor in the deadly collision. The investigation continues.<\/p>\n More: 2 women arrested, accused in violent vehicle chase with child<\/a><\/p>\n The Downtown pedestrian collision was the 13th traffic-related death in El Paso of the year compared with 19 at the same time in 2025.<\/p>\n It was the first of three serious pedestrian collisions<\/a> on Sunday.
