HOUSTON \u2013 The Garden Theatre is marking a milestone in Houston\u2019s arts scene as the nonprofit company celebrates five years of producing acclaimed productions and supporting local artists. With shows like \u201cBonnie & Clyde\u201d and \u201cCruel Intentions: The \u201990s Musical,\u201d the company provides opportunities for Houston performers to take the stage while balancing careers beyond the arts.<\/p>\n
The theatre company made its debut during the pandemic with the cabaret-style production \u201cNew Beginnings,\u201d staged in a large backyard. The show\u2019s success earned the 2021 Broadway World Regional Award for best streaming concert. Since its launch, the Garden Theatre has produced 24 shows and supported more than 200 artists on and off stage.<\/p>\n
At the center of it all is founding artistic director Logan Vaden, who is stepping back into the spotlight for the first time in a decade in Stephen Sondheim\u2019s \u201cCompany.\u201d Similar to the show\u2019s main character, Bobby, Vaden will celebrate his 35th birthday on stage.<\/p>\n
\u201cAbout four years ago, I thought, \u2018How cool would it be if we got to do \u201cCompany,\u201d and I played Bobby and turned 35 for real in the show, surrounded by my friends, the artists,\u2019\u201d Vaden said.<\/p>\n
Stephen Sondheim\u2019s \u201cCompany\u201d is a Tony Award-winning musical and is considered one of the first productions to explore modern relationships, marriage and commitment through a series of interconnected moments in the life of a bachelor on his birthday.<\/p>\n
Audiences are invited to join the celebration April 10\u201319 at the Midtown Arts & Theater Center Houston<\/a>, as the Garden Theatre closes out its season with \u201cCompany.\u201d A complimentary reception with champagne and cake will follow the April 11 performance, giving guests a chance to celebrate the theatre\u2019s five-year milestone and Vaden\u2019s birthday alongside the cast and creative team.<\/p>\n
