UTA Volunteers will send students, staff and faculty to help with various project sites across the Dallas-Fort Worth area April 18, ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt’s just a chance to really slow down and give back to the community that we spend so much time in throughout the academic year,\u201d said Kristine Cross, assistant director at the Fallout Student Leadership Center. <\/p>\n

The Big Event is a day of service where UTA works with community partners to help the community through acts of service. The City of Arlington, in partnership with the North Texas FIFA World Cup Organizing Committee, is sending around 400 Mavericks to 16 locations across Dallas-Fort Worth, including Arlington. <\/p>\n

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., some volunteers will be mulching trails and cleaning the Nature School deck area of the River Legacy Nature Center, others will be cooking meals and bagging products at the Tarrant Area Food Bank. <\/p>\n

Other project sites include Randol Mill Park, the Perot Museum, La Frontera Homeowners Association and the Salvation Army Arlington-Mansfield. <\/p>\n

With the 2026 World Cup just a few months away, volunteers will play a part in getting the area ready for an estimated 3.8 million visitors, according to an Arlington press release. <\/p>\n
