You’re going to see there are flowers in there. And you’re going to see the fountains operable again,” said Dallas Park and Recreation Director John Jenkins.

Dallas Park and Recreation previously told WFAA they plan to revitalize Fair Park with the “5 Pillars for Fair Park” plan, focusing on community and economic growth.

Jenkins told the Dallas City Council that the city is shifting from years of stalled efforts to tangible work on the ground. When asked how significant that shift could be, he said the challenges at Fair Park have lingered for decades.

“I think this is probably the biggest problem that hasn’t been solved in the 50 years that I’ve been watching this from afar,” Jenkins said.

The update comes after the city took back control of Fair Park from Oak View Group in September, ending a six-year management deal that broke down over maintenance, finances and oversight.

Since then, Jenkins said crews have upgraded HVAC systems in several buildings, improved landscaping, and overseen renovations at the African American Museum.

Dallas City Council member Adam Bazaldua called the shift overdue.

“There was never any innovative thinking, and this is truly exciting,” Bazaldua said.

City leaders are now looking ahead to a larger redevelopment effort, including plans for about 45 acres of parking lots. Jenkins said that could include a hotel, retail, restaurants and sports and entertainment options.

“This is not a stop-and-go or reset. We finally have a good plan in place that we’re actually implementing,” Jenkins said.

He said the goal is to generate revenue that can help preserve Fair Park’s historic buildings and maintain ongoing improvements — keeping features like its fountains running long-term.

Dallas leaders say visible improvements and a new redevelopment plan signal long-awaited progress at Fair Park after years…

[9
102,104,103
0":"post-238122","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-dallas","8":"tag-dallas","9":"tag-dallas-headlines","10":"tag-dallas-news
["GET
