If you’re driving to see\u00a0Peso Pluma<\/a> or George Strait in Austin<\/a>, you may experience some longer traffic delays<\/a> traveling south after both concerts. The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is temporarily closing two lanes on both sides of I-35 nightly beginning Monday, April 6, for its ongoing expansion project.\u00a0<\/p>\n

TxDOT issued a traffic alert for the closures on northbound and southbound I-35 lanes between State Highway 71\/Ben White Boulevard and Slaughter Lane. Both sides of the highway will have varying nightly lane closures starting Monday through Saturday, April 11, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., for traffic barrier relocation.<\/p>\n

TxDOT warned drivers that lanes will be reduced to one lane in various locations. These closures could impact drivers traveling on I-35 after two major shows in the live music capital\u00a0this week.<\/p>\n

If you missed him in San Antonio,\u00a0Peso Pluma will be performing at the Moody Center in Austin on Tuesday, April 7, at 8 p.m. as part of his\u00a0Dinast\u00eda Tour. A few days later, George Strait will also be at the Moody Center for two shows on Thursday, April 9, and Saturday, April 11.<\/p>\n

So if you’re driving south on I-35 after both concerts, you may need to find an alternative route that fits your commute. Last month, when TxDOT closed northbound I-35 mainlanes between Slaughter Lane and SH 71\/Ben White Boulevard, the department advised I-35 drivers to use exit 228<\/a>, continue through the SH 71 intersection and use the next entrance ramp for I-35.<\/p>\n

TxDOT’s I-35 Capital Express South project is part of the state’s ongoing MyMobility35 project, slated to improve and expand the highway that runs through Austin. The project will add two high-occupancy-vehicle (HOV) managed lanes in each direction along I-35 between SH 71\/Ben White Boulevard and SH 45 Southeast, according to the TxDOT website<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The project will also introduce a southbound I-35 bypass lane that will allow traffic to bypass\u00a0Stassney Lane and William Cannon Drive, with both entrance and exit ramps to be reconstructed and relocated.
