{"id":238588,"date":"2026-04-07T10:43:08","date_gmt":"2026-04-07T10:43:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/238588\/"},"modified":"2026-04-07T10:43:08","modified_gmt":"2026-04-07T10:43:08","slug":"heres-what-its-like-to-make-the-chosen-in-north-texas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/238588\/","title":{"rendered":"Here\u2019s what it\u2019s like to make \u2018The Chosen\u2019 in North Texas"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Midlothian<\/p>\n<p>The stars of <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt5622316\/?ref_=ttep_ov_bk\">\u201cThe Chosen\u201d<\/a> have gotten used to living and <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.star-telegram.com\/entertainment\/fort-worth\/article312161885.html\">working in North Texas<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Since season 3, the Biblical drama series based on the life of Jesus has primarily filmed at <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.star-telegram.com\/entertainment\/article302485439.html\">Camp Hoblitzelle in Midlothian.<\/a> The Salvation Army owns and operates the 1,200-acre campus, which has more than 80,000 square feet of soundstages and outdoor sets for the show.<\/p>\n<p>In August 2025, the Star-Telegram visited the show\u2019s set to chat with the cast about season 6, which will cover the crucifixion.<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.star-telegram.com\/entertainment\/fort-worth\/article315291988.html\">Season 6 will premiere three episodes<\/a> on Nov. 15 on Prime Video, followed by weekly releases through Dec. 6. Fans will then have to wait until March 12, 2027, to see the season 6 finale in movie theaters.<\/p>\n<p>While details on the upcoming season are under wraps until closer to episodes releasing, the cast did open up about spending so much time in North Texas. Here\u2019s what they said.<\/p>\n<p>Jonathan Roumie and Elizabeth Tabish<\/p>\n<p>Jonathan Roumie, who plays Jesus, says he hasn\u2019t gotten used to the heat and humidity that Texas \u201cgenerously\u201d serves to the production.<\/p>\n<p>However, he admitted that the state does feel like a second home since he\u2019s spent so much time here. Brayden Garcia                                                                            bgarcia@star-telegram.com                                                                                        Shahar Isaac and Paras Patel<\/p>\n<p>Shahar Isaac, who plays Simon Peter, said the North Texas region is at the heart of the show.<\/p>\n<p>Whether it was filming early seasons at Capernaum Studios in Poolville, Texas, or using Benbook Lake as a location for scenes, the region has rubbed off on the show.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis show grew up here,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>With so much time here, the cast has had time to explore the region.<\/p>\n<p>Paras Patel, who plays Matthew, said Dallas is a fun place to visit with several different neighborhoods that he\u2019s explored over the years. As for Isaac, it\u2019s all about Cowtown.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI hear everything on Magnolia in Fort Worth is good,\u201d Isaac said. \u201cThat\u2019s what they tell me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\ud83d\udd25 In case you missed it&#8230; <\/p>\n<p>        George H. Xanthis, Noah James and Vanessa Benavente<\/p>\n<p>As \u201cThe Chosen\u201d has grown in popularity over the years, so have the sets in Midlothian.<\/p>\n<p>George H. Xanthis, who plays John, said his family from Australia visited the set sometime last year and likened it to the famous <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/disney.fandom.com\/wiki\/Studio_Backlot_Tour\">Studio Backlot Tour<\/a> at Disney\u2019s Hollywood Studios.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt has come a long way,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Noah James, who plays Andrew, and Vanessa Benavente, who plays Mother Mary, both said the crew takes great care in making sure everything looks and feels authentic.<\/p>\n<p>Benavente said it&#8217;s been \u201cmind-boggling\u201d to see the growth in the production over the years, and how that\u2019s translated to the practicality of the show.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEverything looks so real,\u201d she said. \u201cYou are really transported to that time and place.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>                                              <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"responsive-image\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/CHSN-S5-5.jpg\"   width=\"1140\" height=\"760\" title=\"CHSN-S5-5.jpg\" alt=\"A still from \u201cThe Chosen\u201d season 5.\"\/>                                                                                    A still from \u201cThe Chosen\u201d season 5.                                                                                                                                                                        5&amp;2 Studios                                                                                        Jordan Walker Ross and Abe Bueno-Jallad<\/p>\n<p>Jordan Walker Ross, who plays Little James, and Abe Bueno-Jallad, who plays Big James, are two of the main cast actually from Texas.<\/p>\n<p>Ross is from Arlington and is the son of current Mayor Jim Ross, while Bueno-Jallad is from El Paso. Both say they\u2019ve enjoyed working in their home state, especially after spending some many years away working in Los Angeles.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI actually moved home from LA with my tail tucked between my legs thinking, \u2018Oh, it\u2019s not going to work out for me.
