Millennials, rejoice.<\/p>\n
Experimental progressive-rock and post-hardcore band The Mars Volta\u2019s newly unveiled North American tour will include a San Antonio stop this fall. The Mars Volta will be joining My Chemical Romance on the bill \u2014\u00a0the only one on the tour where the two acts cross paths.<\/p>\n
The show will take place Saturday, Sept. 12, at the Alamodome, and tickets are on sale now<\/a> starting at $124.<\/p>\n The My Chemical Romance show has been on the books since the fall<\/a>, and tickets have been selling well, according to Alamodome officials. The Mars Volta will take the opening slot for the evening.<\/p>\n The Mars Volta\u2019s new tour will feature a \u201ccareer-spanning setlist\u201d drawing from the band\u2019s nine studio albums. That\u2019s a contrast to the band\u2019s last San Antonio stop \u2014\u00a0an opening slot for the Deftones last March at Frost Bank Center\u00a0\u2014\u00a0where it played its ninth studio album, Lucro Sucio; Los Ojos Del Vacio, in its entirety.<\/p>\n In a statement announcing the new tour, The Mars Volta reflected back on that controversial choice, referring to it as a \u201cdirector\u2019s cut\u201d setlist and a \u201cspiritual experience.\u201d The statement refers to the ninth album as \u201ca bold evolution for the band, distancing them from their post-hardcore roots in favor of a \u2018psychedelic fever dream\u2019 reminiscent of\u00a0Kid A.\u201d<\/p>\n Yeah, whatever. Would it kill you to slot in \u201cThe Widow\u201d at some point?<\/p>\n But, now, The Mars Volta is finally giving the people what they want. Hopefully.<\/p>\n My Chemical Romance\u2019s pairing with the experimental post-hardcore band offers a veritable buffet of early-2000s nostalgia. And in a city with a higher emo-per-capita ratio than most, perhaps that was a smart move.<\/p>\n The Mars Volta tour kicks off Sept. 8 in California with stops in Arizona, North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida and Kentucky. A Sept. 10 stop in El Paso, The Mars Volta\u2019s hometown, is the only other Texas date.<\/p>\n According to Metal Injection<\/a>, The Mars Volta was back in the studio in December to work on its 10th studio album with acclaimed producer Sylvia Massy (Tool, Johnny Cash, Monolord, System of a Down, Red Hot Chili Peppers).<\/p>\n Given that The Mars Volta\u2019s last album was sneakily debuted on tour without fanfare, the question is whether San Antonio can expect a sneak peak yet again.
