The Tarrant County DA says the man was sentenced to 40 years for the 2023 deadly incident, and an additional 35 years for two separate incidents in Dallas County<\/p>\n
FORT WORTH, Texas \u2014 A man has been sentenced to 60 years in prison for a deadly 2023 incident where he brutally assaulted and drugged a woman, which led to her death, according to the Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Officials say 34-year-old Kaleb Mickens pled guilty to first-degree aggravated assault, family violence, and was sentenced to 40 years in prison for the assault and drugging of Sheila Cuevas. Cuevas died from her injuries on October 8, 2023.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Police say Mickens called 911 that day and said Cuevas had been attacked by his dog and was no longer breathing. Officials say the dog was taken and euthanized by animal control, but later determined the animal had nothing to do with Cuevas’ injuries or death.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Mickens was also sentenced to 20 years on a probation revocation for an aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury and 15 years for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon from Dallas County.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The DA’s office says Mickens went by the nickname “Cash Cartier” and was a prominent figure in the Multi-Level Market, IM Academy, where he lured young people to join his “training team” with the promise of making thousands of dollars. He used his perceived wealth and status to manipulate people with threats and promises while hiding his violent persona.\u00a0<\/p>\n
On Monday, several women delivered an impact statement that included details of torment, torture, manipulation, and sexual assault. Cuevas’ brother also delivered a statement saying, “There can be no justice that brings Sheila back, but there can be outcomes, and there can be accountability; you deserve this.”\u00a0<\/p>\n
