EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. (KKTV) – An arson suspect was arrested by El Paso County deputies over the weekend after several fires were started in the Hanover area.<\/p>\n
Deputies said they arrested 33-year-old Dana Rempel after they determined several fires were connected to him.<\/p>\n
Deputies said that on Sunday, at around 9 a.m., they received multiple reports of several fires that started in the Hanover area, as well as an adult male running into an adjacent field.<\/p>\n
Deputies said Hanover Fire personnel responded and requested law enforcement to help due to reports of an active arsonist.<\/p>\n
Deputies said with the assistance of Fountain police and deputies from Pueblo County, they established a perimeter and deployed drones.<\/p>\n
Drones from El Paso County deputies and Fountain police identified about seven separate fires, along with one vehicle fire, within a one-mile area extending southwest along the creek bed near High Stakes View<\/p>\n
A fire investigator from the Fountain Fire Department responded and determined the fires originated near the 21200 block of High Stakes View and extended to a vehicle fire behind a residence on High Stakes View, deputies said.<\/p>\n
Deputies said the fires were determined to have been intentionally set.<\/p>\n
Deputies said at about 11 a.m., they located an unresponsive adult male matching the suspect description near Indian Village Heights and Boca Raton Heights.<\/p>\n
Law enforcement personnel responded and rendered aid, deputies said. The suspect regained consciousness, and deputies identified him as Rempel.<\/p>\n
Deputies said evidence was found during the investigation that linked Rempel to the fires.<\/p>\n
Deputies said all fires were extinguished with no structural damages or loss of life. No injuries to first responders were reported.<\/p>\n
Deputies said Rempel was booked into the El Paso County Jail on charges of fourth-degree arson and additional felony charges. Jail records said Tuesday morning that Rempel was being held on a $50,000 bond.<\/p>\n
