Here\u2019s what I said about them back then (with some minor editing):<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Three more instalments in the splendid Austin City Limits music series \u2014 and three more winners.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 80px;\">From 1980: A swampy 62-minute set from good ole boy Tony Joe White, who leads a trio through born-on-the-bayou classics like Polk Salad Annie and Rainy Night In Georgia. From 1985: A honky-tonkin\u2019 46-minute show from Bakersfield legend Merle Haggard and his 10-piece band of Strangers, with a set list that includes Mama Tried, Take Me Back To Tulsa and Silver Wings. From 1989: A gritty 56-minute performance by country outlaw Waylon Jennings, aided by a crack sextet, his ex-wife Jessi Colter and classics like Amanda, Good Hearted Woman and Luckenbach, Texas. As always, each set comes with a ton of unaired footage.
