<\/p>\n ARLINGTON, Texas \u2013\u00a0The UT Arlington Mavericks dropped a midweek matchup to Baylor 5-2 on Tuesday evening at Clay Gould Ballpark.<\/p>\n UTA (13-18, 2-1 WAC) struck early in the first inning when Xavier Melendez<\/a> launched a two-run home run to deep left field, scoring Preston Knott<\/a> and giving the Mavericks a 2-0 lead. The blast traveled 406 feet and marked Melendez’s fourth home run of the season.<\/p>\n Baylor (19-13) answered in the second inning with a run and added another in the third to tie the game at 2-2. The Bears pulled ahead with a three-run fifth inning that proved to be the difference in the contest.<\/p>\n Melendez finished 1-for-4 with two RBIs, while Knott and Xander McAfee<\/a> each recorded a hit. \nThe Mavericks used nine pitchers in the midweek game. Jacob Havern<\/a> took the loss after allowing three runs in the fifth inning. Dylan Skolfield<\/a> started and worked 1.0 inning, while David An<\/a>, Landon Murphy<\/a>, Jacob Gabler<\/a>, Nick Perry<\/a>, Zach Evans<\/a>, Jack Barr<\/a> and Hayes Melville<\/a> all saw action in relief.<\/p>\n
\nUT Arlington returns to Western Athletic Conference play this weekend with a three-game series at California Baptist, beginning Friday.
