(KBTX) – No. 18 Texas A&M baseball was undefeated in midweek games in 2026 until Tuesday in San Marcos. The Bobcats (22-10, 8-4) beat the Aggies (25-7, 7-5) 9-8 for their first win at home over A&M since 2013.<\/p>\n
Why did the Aggies lose? Inconsistent pitching and untimely hitting plagued the Aggies in a respectable loss to Texas State, which is No. 38 in RPI. Texas A&M did have a 70.9% strike percentage, but the Aggies also allowed 13 hits.<\/p>\n
Cole Hubert got the start and pitched 2.0 innings, allowing 4 hits, 3 runs and 2 strikeouts. Gavin Lyons was the first pitcher out of the bullpen and also allowed 3 runs, giving Texas State a 6-3 lead after the third inning.<\/p>\n
The Aggies could not seem to get timely hits, leaving 11 runners on base compared with the Bobcats\u2019 six.<\/p>\n
Who stood out? Gavin Grahovac and Boston Kellner both went yard for the Aggies. Grahovac\u2019s solo shot came in the second inning to give A&M a 3-0 lead. Kellner blasted a two-run shot to make it a one-run game, 6-5, in the fourth inning.<\/p>\n
Jake Duer and Bear Harrison were the only Aggies to have multihit games, both going 2-for-4 at the plate.<\/p>\n
For the Bobcats, Jaquae Stewart was 2-for-4 at the plate with four RBIs. Stewart\u2019s two-RBI home run came in the third inning to put the Bobcats up 6-3. His two-RBI single in the bottom of the seventh gave the Bobcats the lead for good, 9-7. Clayton Namken was 3-for-3 at the plate and scored a run.<\/p>\n
What was a key stat? While Texas A&M did not have timely hitting, leaving 11 runners on base, Texas State came up clutch with six two-out RBIs.<\/p>\n
What\u2019s next? This was the calm before the storm. Texas A&M has its most highly anticipated regular-season series, possibly ever, this weekend with No. 2 Texas coming to town. The Lone Star Showdown will be the first time former head coach Jim Schlossnagle returns to Olsen Field after his infamous departure for the Longhorns two years ago. Get your popcorn ready. First pitch for Game 1 is set for 7 p.m. Friday and will be broadcast on the SEC Network. Saturday\u2019s Game 2 will be at 2 p.m. on ESPN2.<\/p>\n
