{"id":240183,"date":"2026-04-08T10:03:08","date_gmt":"2026-04-08T10:03:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/240183\/"},"modified":"2026-04-08T10:03:08","modified_gmt":"2026-04-08T10:03:08","slug":"severe-storms-to-slam-texas-with-hail-tornado-flood-threats","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/240183\/","title":{"rendered":"Severe storms to slam Texas with hail, tornado, flood threats"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mysanantonio.com\/news\/weather\/\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Texas weather<\/a> is going to get severe this week and well into the weekend. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mysanantonio.com\/news\/weather\/article\/cold-front-hail-texas-weather-22183085.php\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Large hail<\/a>, tornado risks and strong wind gusts all threaten the Lone Star State as a system sweeps in Thursday, March 9.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/forecast.weather.gov\/MapClick.php?lat=36.063289&amp;lon=-102.521937\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Texas Panhandle <\/a>will be the first to see the gloomy weather roll in first, with odds beginning to climb slowly. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mysanantonio.com\/news\/weather\/article\/san-antonio-easter-weekend-storms-22188931.php\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Stormy skies <\/a>should linger throughout the weekend but clear up just as folks gear up to clock in Monday morning.<\/p>\n<p>But residents should brace for some pretty strong storms, including hail, before it\u2019s all over.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSurface moisture being suboptimal leads to high based storms, which, in quite the buoyant environment\u2026 could lead to large hail growth,\u201d the National Weather Service Amarillo office warns.<\/p>\n<p>From<a href=\"https:\/\/forecast.weather.gov\/product.php?site=AMA&amp;issuedby=AMA&amp;product=AFD&amp;format=CI&amp;version=1&amp;glossary=1\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\"> Dalhart<\/a> to Amarillo, storm odds continue to increase through Friday night and well into Saturday morning, when odds peak between 70% and 80%. There\u2019s a roughly 50% chance of widespread rain totals exceeding half an inch during this time.<\/p>\n<p>While North Texas, including the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, won\u2019t miss out on this stormy weather, the worst of it will hit much later. Rian chances begin to crop up in the region as early as Friday afternoon, but those odds don\u2019t really spike until Sunday when they climb up to 60%.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately for city dwellers, <a href=\"https:\/\/forecast.weather.gov\/MapClick.php?lat=32.7779765&amp;lon=-96.7962148\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Dallas should see storm clouds <\/a>overhead well into the next work week. A 40% chance of thunderstorms hangs over the metro area throughout Monday. And sunny skies really won\u2019t shine over Dallas at all next week, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/weather.com\/weather\/tenday\/l\/83cda9fc80bff5810fddd0caf822ff85fa86ee65652061b3069426f31d9e9d2c\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">The Weather Channel <\/a>10-day outlook.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cExtended guidance continues to highlight decent moisture and moderate to strong shear for organized convection, especially on Sunday and again on Monday,\u201d the <a href=\"https:\/\/forecast.weather.gov\/product.php?site=FWD&amp;issuedby=FWD&amp;product=AFD&amp;format=CI&amp;version=1&amp;glossary=1\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">NWS DFW office<\/a> wrote. \u201cThis will bring the potential for a few strong to severe storms to the region, but details on timing and coverage sill main uncertain.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Some of the biggest severe weather threats in the region this weekend includes minor flooding in pockets of heavy rain.<\/p>\n<p>San Antonio will also see some <a href=\"https:\/\/forecast.weather.gov\/MapClick.php?lat=29.4251712&amp;lon=-98.494614\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">much needed rain,<\/a> but it may hang around a little past its welcome. Storm odds first crop up Wednesday, at a low 20% chance. But those chances climb to the 30% to 50% range from Thursday afternoon all the way through next week.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAny rainfall at this point is beneficial, so despite the threat for severe weather, we will take the chance at rainfall when we can,\u201d the Austin-San Antonio branch of the <a href=\"https:\/\/forecast.weather.gov\/product.php?site=EWX&amp;issuedby=EWX&amp;product=AFD&amp;format=CI&amp;version=1&amp;glossary=1\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">National Weather Service warned.<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Texas weather is going to get severe this week and well into the weekend.
