{"id":240825,"date":"2026-04-08T19:48:08","date_gmt":"2026-04-08T19:48:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/240825\/"},"modified":"2026-04-08T19:48:08","modified_gmt":"2026-04-08T19:48:08","slug":"officials-reveal-road-closures-ahead-of-world-cup-at-news-conference-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/240825\/","title":{"rendered":"Officials reveal road closures ahead of World Cup at news conference"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Regional officials announced traffic plans for the World Cup in Arlington this summer, and an expected influx of nearly two million people in North Texas is going to cause some travel disruptions.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The North Texas FIFA World Cup Organizing Committee and the North Central Texas Council of Governments hosted a news conference last week announcing the traffic plans.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/news\/transportation\/article\/d-fw-toll-prices-increase-due-world-cup-tourism-22185597.php\" data-link=\"native\" class=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The council stated <\/a>the possible addition of two million\u00a0people\u00a0will occur over the nine match days. Dallas has the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallassports.org\/press\/press-releases\/dallas-final-match-schedule-for-the-fifa-world-cup-2026\/\" data-link=\"native\" class=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">most match days<\/a> of any host city for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/world-cup\/\" data-link=\"native\" class=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">2026 World Cup,<\/a> and officials are urging locals attending the matches to drive, leaving public transportation to international visitors. Those who work in Arlington&#8217;s entertainment district will also be encouraged to work from home on match days to help with traffic congestion.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The transportation plan involves routes to and from Dallas Love Field and Dallas Fort Worth International airports, the FIFA Fan Festival at Fair Park and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/news\/2024\/02\/05\/att-stadium-will-change-its-name-to-dallas-stadium-for-world-cup-not-everyone-is-happy\/\" data-link=\"native\" class=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Dallas Stadium<\/a> in Arlington. The plans were created in tandem with DART, Trinity Railway Express and the Texas Department of Transportation and are in place to increase the magnitude of services. Trinity Metro will also begin using four-car trains to maximize the number of riders. Sunday rail service will be provided for the first match day on June 14. The council will also be providing an additional 125 charter buses to help with the flow of traffic from major stations.<\/p>\n<p>Road closures across the region began March 31 in preparation.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>South Griffin Street, near the International Broadcast Center, will be closed until after the end of the World Cup on July 23. Other closures on South Griffin Street and South\u00a0Akard Street are related to the TxDOT until mid-2027.<\/p>\n<p>First Avenue, starting at Fair Park station, to Pennsylvania Avenue will be closed. Grand Avenue\u00a0will also be closed. Nearby DART stations include Fair Park Station and MLK Jr. Station. Those not taking public transportation can park in lots 11 and 13. Lot 12C is the designated rideshare dropoff location.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Nolan Ryan Expressway near the bus hub will be closed. Cowboys Way and AT&amp;T Way will also be closed.
