The Eastern District of Texas federal court has sentenced a McKinney man to over seven years in federal prison for his role in a robbery of a Plano firearms store.<\/p>\n
Brandon Elliott Bennett pled guilty to charges of conspiracy of theft from a federal firearm licensee and theft from a federal firearm licensee and will carry an 87-month sentence as levied by U.S. District Judge Amos L. Mazzant on Tuesday in Sherman. Details were provided by the Department of Justice and U.S. Attorney Jay R. Combs in a press release published Wednesday.<\/p>\n
The incident which led to the 22-year-old Bennett’s arrest happened on May 5, 2024, according to court documents. Bennett and others conspired to rob Mister Guns, a licensed gun store in Plano and would do so by ramming a vehicle into the front entrance of the business, knocking off the entrance door and causing extensive damage to the storefront. <\/p>\n
While inside the store, Bennett smashed several glass display cases with a sledgehammer and stole over 60 firearms, including rifles, handguns, and pistols. Those firearms would later be sold by Bennett for profit.<\/p>\n
According to the DOJ release, this robbery case was investigated as part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative that marshals the full resources of the DOJ to repel the invasion of illegal immigration, achieve the total elimination of cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs) and protect our communities from the perpetrators of violent crime.<\/p>\n
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives investigated the case, and it was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Chalana A.
