Dozens of Cybercabs, Tesla Inc.\u2019s purpose-built robotaxi<\/a>, have been spotted at Gigafactory Texas, suggesting production of the new vehicle is likely underway.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Seen from a distance, the vehicles appear to lack side mirrors and rear windows, similar to others previously observed testing on Austin roads. Apart from the mirrors, Tesla CEO Elon Musk has also said the vehicle will be a fully autonomous electric vehicle with no steering wheel and no accelerator or brake pedals.<\/p>\n

Musk has said production would begin in April<\/a>, prompting close scrutiny from observers watching whether Tesla meets the timeline. Its last vehicle, the Cybertruck, famously missed production targets before deliveries finally began in late 2023.<\/p>\n

Tesla previously indicated it would ramp up production this spring. In mid-February, Tesla shared a photo of what it said was the first production Cybercab that rolled off the line at Gigafactory Texas.<\/p>\n

Tesla did not respond to a request for comment. A chatbot on its website said the Cybercab currently has no official production or delivery timeline, and Tesla\u2019s Robotaxi information page only mentions the Model Y as a vehicle that riders can hail.<\/p>\n

On Wednesday, other matters appeared to draw Musk\u2019s attention. He posted on X that a few hundred\u00a0Model S and Model X vehicles<\/a> are left in inventory. Meanwhile, Tesla announced a new version of the system expected to power the Cybercab\u2019s self-driving capabilities.
