SAN ANTONIO \u2013 At the San Antonio Food Bank, volunteers placed hundreds of bags and boxes in trunks on Monday to make sure families have food on the table. <\/p>\n

\u201cYou struggle every day even with just paying the bills to try to get ahead,\u201d recipient Linda Moon said. <\/p>\n

Moon is one of the 284,000 Bexar County residents who uses Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits. <\/p>\n

On Monday, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said the federal food benefits will not go out on Nov. 1<\/a> because the \u201cwell has run dry\u201d on funding amid the government shutdown. <\/p>\n

Moon expects to make visits to the food bank more often. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt is a little nerve-wracking,\u201d recipient Valerie Noriega said. \u201c(I\u2019m) trying not to worry about how we\u2019re going to make it.\u201d <\/p>\n

Noriega is unemployed and trying to find a job to support her family. The added pressure of figuring out how to feed them is stressful. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a little upsetting because it does help a lot for our family,\u201d she said. \u201cI have three kids and a grandbaby.\u201d <\/p>\n

Eric Cooper, CEO and president of the San Antonio Food Bank, said he is prepared to \u201cempty the warehouse\u201d<\/a> to ensure food needs are met during the ongoing federal shutdown.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m very, very grateful for the help that we as citizens get,\u201d Moon said. <\/p>\n
