The beaver kit is recovering well and already on to new adventures. <\/p>\n

AUSTIN, Texas \u2014 A tiny, unexpected visitor stole hearts at a Texas wildlife rescue organization this week \u2014 a baby beaver, or “kit,” found wandering alone on an Austin sidewalk.<\/p>\n

Austin Animal Services officers discovered the little furball unattended and, after searching the surrounding area for any sign of its mother or siblings, brought it straight to the Austin Wildlife Rescue.<\/p>\n

“Hot Dam\u2026 we got a baby beaver!” the rescue\u00a0wrote in a Facebook post.\u00a0<\/a>“Meet our new branch manager in the making!”<\/p>\n

Baby beavers are a rare sight, AWR said, making this rescue an extra special one. Staff say the kit arrived weak and cold, prompting the team to immediately begin warming it up.<\/p>\n

AWR believes the beaver may have been swept out of its den during Austin’s recent heavy rainstorms.<\/p>\n

Getting the little one to eat, however, proved to be its own adventure. Staffers described the feeding process as something close to negotiating with a tiny, opinionated toddler.<\/p>\n

“After a few tiny beaver tantrums, we finally were able to get the kit to suckle and take the much needed formula,” AWR wrote in a Facebook post. The organization joked that rehabbing beavers involves “a lot of opinions and stubbornness from the beaver side.”<\/p>\n

AWR\u00a0shared an update<\/a> on the kit Tuesday, which also happened to be International Beaver Day.<\/p>\n

Because beavers are highly social animals that require two to three years of rehabilitation before being released into the wild, AWR knew this kit needed more specialized care than they could provide alone. The baby will grow up at the Wild West Wildlife Rehabilitation Center in Amarillo, Texas, which has a dedicated water feature where the kit can learn to swim, build dams and “be a beaver in the most amazing setup.”<\/p>\n

Before making the trip to her new home, the kit made a very important pit stop to get a Buc-ee’s plushie for the road.<\/p>\n

“While we are sad to see our kit go onto new adventures, we know this is the best decision for the animal and she (or he) will be able to learn those busy beaver skills.
