SAN MARCOS, Texas\u00a0– Troy baseball returns to Sun Belt Conference action this weekend with a three-game series at Texas State.<\/p>\n

The Trojans are coming off a 12-2 run-rule victory over Florida A&M on Wednesday after taking a crucial Sun Belt series over Arkansas State over the weekend. Drew Nelson<\/a> led Troy with a 6-for-11 weekend against the Red Wolves before tacking on three RBIs at the plate at three shutout innings on the mound against FAMU.<\/p>\n

On the mound, Troy will stick with Benjamin Stubbs<\/a> on Friday and will move Tommy Egan<\/a> up from the game three slot to game two. Stubbs has tossed at least six innings in each of his last six starts, while Egan has been one of the top strikeout pitchers in the Sun Belt with 55 on the season, including a career high 11 last week. Troy head coach Skylar Meade<\/a> has not named a starter for the finale.<\/p>\n

Texas State enters the weekend second in the Sun Belt standings at 8-4. The Bobcats are 23-10 overall, and are coming off a pair of midweek wins over Texas A&M on Tuesday and Stephen F. Austin on Wednesday. The Bobcats have slammed 66 homers, ranking sixth nationally, including 11 from Dawson Park and Jackson Cotton and 10 from Manny Salas.<\/p>\n

Trojan Workhorse

\nFriday night starter Benjamin Stubbs<\/a> has pitched six consecutive quality starts (6+ IP, 3 or fewer ER), the first Trojan to do so since Grayson Stewart<\/a> in 2023. During those six starts, Stubbs has tossed 40 innings with a 2.70 ERA, 36 strikeouts, seven walks and a .192 opponent batting average.<\/p>\n

Tommy Turning it Up

\nSaturday starter Tommy Egan’s<\/a> strikeout numbers have skyrocketed since his arrival on campus at Troy. After striking out 7.6 hitters per nine innings at UIC last season, Egan now sits among the Sun Belt’s strikeout leaders. He’s fanned 55 hitters through 40.2 innings in eight starts and his 12.17 strikeouts per nine innings rank second in the Sun Belt and 21st nationally among pitchers with at least 40 innings under their belt.<\/p>\n

Productive Pyne

\nTroy redshirt senior third baseman Josh Pyne<\/a> enters the weekend as college baseball’s active career leader in hits (260) and doubles (69). His 11 doubles this season lead the Trojans.<\/p>\n

Series History

\nTroy leads the all-time series with Texas State 19-12, though, the Bobcats lead 8-5 in San Marcos. The Trojans went 3-1 against Texas State last season, winning 2-of-3 in Troy before defeating the Bobcats again in the Sun Belt Tournament.
