The City of Dallas, in partnership with the Dallas Area Rape Crisis Center, will proclaim April 2026 as Sexual Assault Awareness Month in Dallas during a ceremony at City Hall on Monday, April 13.<\/p>\n

The city sent out a press release<\/a> with the event details on Thursday. According to the release, the event will be held in City Hall’s Flag Room at 11 a.m. In attendance will be city leaders, advocates, and community members.<\/p>\n

Data shows that sexual assault remains a pervasive issue in society across demographics. In Texas, 2 in 5 women and 1 in 5 men experience sexual assault. <\/p>\n

The city estimates 260,872 women and 129,474 men in Dallas have experienced sexual assault, but notes that the crime is often underreported due to stigma, misunderstanding, and barriers to accessing support.<\/p>\n

April is also national Sexual Assault Awareness Month<\/a>. The city encourages residents to take this time to participate in events and initiatives that promote awareness, education, and advocacy.<\/p>\n

“The proclamation underscores the City of Dallas’s commitment to fostering a culture of respect, safety, and equality,” the press release states. “It highlights the importance of collaboration among community organizations, businesses, and residents to prevent sexual violence and ensure survivors have access to comprehensive, trauma-informed resources such as medical care, advocacy, counseling, and legal services.”<\/p>\n
