The Texas Rangers\u2019 new \u201cTejas\u201d City Connect design is drawing attention\u2014and dividing fans.<\/p>\n

The Rangers unveiled their latest Nike City Connect uniforms on Thursday<\/a>, a design the club says blends franchise tradition with a tribute to Mexican influence woven into Texas identity and the name the team represents.<\/p>\n Article continues below this ad<\/p>\n The uniforms feature a cochineal red base with \u201cTejas\u201d across the chest, a nod to both the Spanish spelling of Texas and the team\u2019s 1980s-era look. The design also draws on Mexican craftsmanship, including papel picado artwork on the sleeve, charro-inspired patterns tied to mariachi culture and a custom leather belt referencing vaquero tradition.<\/p>\n The team said in a statement the uniforms are meant to reflect \u201cthe Mexican influence woven into the state\u2019s identity\u201d and celebrate shared heritage.<\/p>\n \u201cThis year\u2019s City Connect uniform reflects the strong Hispanic influences that have shaped Texas, with tributes to Mexican heritage and Rangers history,\u201d said Jim\u00a0Cochrane, the team\u2019s executive vice president and chief business officer.<\/p>\n Article continues below this ad<\/p>\n
