The Mavericks on Thursday \u201cmoved toward what they say they hope will be a peaceful resolution in their legal dispute<\/a> with the Stars\u201d after earning what they termed significant pretrial legal victories<\/a>, according to Brad Townsend of the DALLAS MORNING NEWS. Mavericks lead attorney Chip Babcock notified the Texas Business Court that the team is \u201cdropping its damages claim\u201d against the Stars for \u201ctortious interference with contract\u201d in its ongoing fight over American Airlines Center. The Mavericks said they are \u201ctaking this step as an important and proactive demonstration of good faith.\u201d Townsend noted without the tortious interference claim, other \u201cissues that remain for a potential trial include whether one side is liable for all legal fees.\u201d The claim withdrawal comes exactly one week after Texas Business Court Judge Bill Whitehill\u2019s order, which the Mavs \u201cinterpret to mean they have control of Center Operating Company,\u201d which controls AAC, \u201cuntil and unless a jury trial decides otherwise.\u201d Whitehill also \u201cdenied the Stars\u2019 five summary judgment motions and granted the Mavericks\u2019 motions for declaratory judgment and affirmative defenses.\u201d Townsend notes given Thursday\u2019s development, it is \u201cunclear whether the scheduled jury trial will still occur.\u201d It \u201cremains to be seen what becomes\u201d of arena disbursements to both teams that have been held in escrow since October 2025, \u201chow much of it would be distributed to the Stars, or how the Mavericks-Stars partnership as AAC tenants will work going forward.\u201d Both teams have leases to remain at AAC through July 2031 (DALLAS MORNING NEWS, 4\/9<\/a>).<\/p>\n

STAYING PUT: In Dallas, Eric Prisbell noted Mavericks CEO Rick Welts during a panel at the North Dallas Chamber of Commerce\u2019s 72nd annual meeting on Thursday \u201creaffirmed the franchise\u2019s commitment to remain\u201d in the city.
