{"id":244080,"date":"2026-04-10T20:29:11","date_gmt":"2026-04-10T20:29:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/244080\/"},"modified":"2026-04-10T20:29:11","modified_gmt":"2026-04-10T20:29:11","slug":"mckinney-to-enter-negotiations-with-parkhill-for-proposed-sports-complex","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/244080\/","title":{"rendered":"McKinney to enter negotiations with Parkhill for proposed sports complex"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\tCity officials are entering into an exclusive negotiating period with Parkhill to develop about 300 acres in north McKinney for a sports and entertainment complex.<\/p>\n<p>What happened?<\/p>\n<p>McKinney City Council members approved a resolution <a href=\"https:\/\/mckinneytx.new.swagit.com\/videos\/381420?ts=1013\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">April 7<\/a> authorizing the city manager to negotiate an agreement with Parkhill to lead, develop and program a \u201clandmark sports and entertainment complex.\u201d The negotiating period will run up to 180 days, according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/mckinney.legistar.com\/ViewReport.ashx?M=R&amp;N=Text&amp;GID=81&amp;ID=6732809&amp;GUID=12EDFDE7-A4E6-4F8A-A4AA-747A942D2BA2&amp;Title=Legislation+Text\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">city document<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>After negotiations are finished, an agreement will be presented to council for consideration and approval, according to an attached <a href=\"https:\/\/mckinney.legistar.com\/View.ashx?M=F&amp;ID=15348116&amp;GUID=2ACC6FF2-03CE-4FDE-91E2-CEF54810E2C4\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">resolution<\/a>. Parkhill was selected from a pool of four firms that responded to a request for qualifications opened in December. City officials interviewed three firms in March.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;&gt;<\/p>\n<p>The context<\/p>\n<p>Plans have been in the works for development of the land since 2020, when the city and McKinney Community Development Corp. began purchasing the property. The purchase was finalized in 2021.<\/p>\n<p>City officials held discussions with a developer in 2021 and 2022, but those negotiations were terminated, according to the city document. Development plans were delayed in 2023 and 2024 as the McKinney Parks Department experienced a leadership transition.<\/p>\n<p>Council members <a href=\"https:\/\/communityimpact.com\/dallas-fort-worth\/mckinney\/government\/2025\/11\/19\/mckinney-council-tables-guiding-principles-for-destination-sports-park\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">tabled guiding principles for the park<\/a> in November 2025. They were later approved in December before the request for qualifications was issued. Those <a href=\"https:\/\/mckinney.legistar.com\/View.ashx?M=F&amp;ID=14976263&amp;GUID=37B3389C-591C-4E00-9F35-9B756B1FF432\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">principles<\/a> include:<\/p>\n<p>Development of a world-class multiuse sports park and entertainment district that will serve as a local, regional, state and national destination for sports and associated usesFinancially sound and effectively managed partnership that supports and values McKinney City Council strategic goalsAbility to provide multiple sports opportunities to meet McKinney\u2019s growing demand for:Local recreation optionsCompetitive sport leaguesSporting needs of the futureMaximization of the value of the MCDC\u2019s portion of the land as a community and economic development anchorDevelopment of the park and associated uses in accordance with McKinney\u2019s design standards, development codes, and in a manner that is consistent with the surrounding developments and the city\u2019s comprehensive planAlso on the agenda<\/p>\n<p>In the same meeting, council members also approved a resolution authorizing a contract with Parkhill to conduct a feasibility study for a proposed recreation center in north McKinney. It\u2019s a separate project that would be located on more than <a href=\"https:\/\/communityimpact.com\/dallas-fort-worth\/mckinney\/government\/2026\/01\/21\/mckinney-to-purchase-110-acres-from-misd-for-city-services-future-recreation-center\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">110 acres purchased by the city<\/a> in January.<\/p>\n<p>City officials are currently planning for the development of a new recreation center and water pump station at the site.
